August’s roundup includes improving internal processes to reduce demand and costs, plus working with colleagues to strengthen the relationship between online and offline reporting channels…

Improving existing internal processes

Throughout August we improved a number of existing internal processes with a view to make them easier for officers and police staff, and in doing so, reducing any associated costs to the Force.

This included:

  • enabling officers and police staff to order uniform quicker and easier, reducing ordering time for the requester and fulfilment time for the ordering team
  • simplifying how officers and police staff register for medical vaccinations, using pre-filled options to decrease the time spent filling in forms

Increasing awareness of online and offline reporting channels

We know from public feedback that awareness of online reporting options is increasing amongst the public. This is in-part thanks to the promotion of these channels by our Call Handlers and Switchboard colleagues:

“Really good service. I wasn’t aware of it until I discussed my issue with the operator at 101. Thank you”

Public feedback for the ‘Make a general enquiry’ form

“Form easy and clear to complete. Telephone conversation with call centre immediately prior to going online in which the Police officer was polite, clear and friendly”

Public feedback for the ‘Apply for access to your personal data’ form

However, there is still work to do to ensure the public are aware of the multiple ways they can report crimes or incidences to us.

With this in mind, members of the Strategic Digital Services team have attended a number of internal training days to share updates on new and improved online reporting channels and how the Avon and Somerset website can support the valuable work they undertake.

Attending these sessions allowed us to:

  1. understand first hand from our colleagues how members of the public are using our online forms, their thoughts on these services and opportunities for improvement
  2. increase awareness of the digital reporting options available to members of the public amongst police staff

We will continue to work closely with internal teams to improve our digital services and promote these services to members of the public.
